Hitachi- from the country that brought the world Fukushima
We feel very sad for the people of Japan who want to end nuclear energy whilst a potential new government and big business are desperate for it

No Fukushima at Oldbury

Horizon Nuclear Power tells us about DECC meeting in Bristol

I don't know if James has made a Freudian slip or whether the Nuclear Institute really is a " not not for profit" organization.

I feel sorry for the speakers from Westinghouse and Areva who will have to come to Thornbury to present to our community at their own expense!...Not!!!

Do these people think we are stupid!......probably.

As someone who has previously expressed an interest in being kept up to date on proposed nuclear new-build near Oldbury-on-Severn, we thought you may be interested to hear about some forthcoming events on nuclear being held in the area:

The Department of Energy and Climate Change’s (DECC) public meeting in Bristol.

The event, to be held on November 29, forms part of DECC’s reconsultation on the changes made to the draft National Policy Statements (NPSs) for Energy and the related Appraisals of Sustainability following its previous consultation and Parliamentary scrutiny.

The purpose of these events is to raise awareness of the new consultation and to provide an overview of how the responses received from the previous consultation have been incorporated in the revised draft NPSs.

If you are interested in attending this event you will need to pre-register via the DECC web site. Further information can be found at: www.energynpsconsultation.decc.gov.uk/events/consultation_events

Also taking place ethis month is The Nuclear Institute is holding two lectures in Thornbury on the November 16 and 30. The not not-for-profit charity for professionals in the nuclear industry is hosting the events to provide local people with more information on the possible reactor technologies for the new-build programme.

The first lecture on November, 16 at the Armstrong Hall at 7pm, will be given by Adrian Bull, Head of Stakeholder Relations for Westinghouse UK. He will look at the AP1000 and cover its evolution, design and safety features, and touch on some of the current AP1000 build projects around the World.

The second lecture at the same venue on November 30 at 7pm is being given by Keith Ardron, Areva UK Licensing Manager. He will deliver a talk on the EPR, also covering its evolution from current operational designs, safety features, through to a review of the current EPR build projects around the World

Both events are free and open to all. For more information go to:

Horizon Nuclear Power will continue to keep local people and communities up to date with significant developments on our proposals for a new nuclear power station near Oldbury via our regular newsletter, website and future public events.

In the meantime if you have any queries or issues you would like to raise with us, please call our freephone number 0800 130 3125 or email us at oldburyenquiries@horizonnuclearpower.com or go to www.horizonnuclearpower.com for more information.

  1. The Nuclear Institute is funded by the empire building cronies from the nuclear industry. How the heck it gets charitable status is beyond understanding. It is a PR machine for the pro-nuclear lobby!

  2. I guess that means the funding put into the running of this PR machine are charitable donations and thus tax deductable... so its a means by which the pro nuclear lobby can have their voice and ensure and evade tax at the same time! Sheesh! wonder what George Osbourne would make of this.

  3. Be fascinating to see how Westinghouse and Areva can explain how these sites will be able to withstand a jumbo jet flying in to them. Especially at Shepperdine where we have to have giant cooling towers. No way can they design these to withstand a jumbo jet crashing in to them. So the cooling will be knocked out and the reactors will overheat and BANG takes out the whole of the SW and millions of people with it!!!!!
